Description
Individual starting conditions of young people who begin their vocational training are often very different. In addition to developing their technical competences and skills, trainers, instructors and vocational teachers are confronted with the task to support the apprentices in developing their interdisciplinary competences. There is often the need to improve their basic skills in mathematics, their native language and a foreign language. Furthermore, it is important to develop social and personal competences. The existing teaching material does often not meet the requirements. Many trainers have developed their own material and methods to advance these competences. However, they are not generally available. It is the aim of the project to provide material and methods that are generally accessible and geared to developing the competences of young people, particularly those completing a vocational training in logistics, wholesale and for industrial metal jobs. This project should help to prepare for the new challenges of the European education area.
The material is placed, discussed and jointly edited in a WiKi. We will exchange our opinions through social networking. The WiKi will be written in German, Dutch, Italian, Hungarian, and in English as a common language for our exchange.
We are developing criteria to assess the quality of the material. These criteria will set standards for an evaluation of methods as well as teaching and learning material throughout Europe and thus will promote interdisciplinary competences in education and training of young people. We will check the quality of any posted material and reference it with a recommendation.
This will gradually create a WiKi for teachers, trainers and instructors in the field of "Developing competences of young people using the example of vocational training in logistics, wholesale and industrial metal jobs".
Developing intercultural competences of skilled workers will have particular priority. At first, we will prepare a specific catalogue of intercultural competences for this target group together. After that, we will develop, test and evaluate a module for intercultural training. This will provide the first training module for intercultural competences to be used in vocational training of these occupational fields.
In addition to virtual cooperation, the participating countries will organize regional workshops. At the end of the project, there will be a European workshop, which will discuss whether the results can be transferred to other branches or countries.
